Dr. Ngan received his medical degree at the University of Hong Kong in 1982. After winning the Hong Kong Medical Association Prize, he joined the Department of Surgery at the Queen Mary Hospital to receive training in general surgery and urology. He obtained his Fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons at Edinburgh in 1985 and became Lecturer in Surgery at the University of Hong Kong. In 1988, he published the first paper from Hong Kong in the reputable Journal of Urology. In 1989, he went for higher training in adult and pediatric urology at
the University of Illinois at Chicago. During training, he was named an
AUA/AFUD (American Urological Association/American Foundation of Urological
Disease Scholar) national scholar and was awarded a research grant in
the study of prostate cancer. In 1995, he became one of the 12 fellows
picked by all American Universities to specialize in the field of Pediatric
Urology. In the years, he trained with Dr. Michael Mitchell, studying
surgery in the children bladder and genitalia. Dr. Ngan began his practice in Hong Kong in 1999. He has admission rights and operating room privileges in all private hospitals. He is Honorary Urology Consultants at the Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital and the Matilda International Hospital. Other than practicing medicine, he maintains close ties with the local and well as foreign urologic communities. Other than participating in Continuing Medical Education, he convenes the quarterly Urology Forum to provide local urologists a platform to discuss problems and successes. Dr. Ngan supports charities in Hong Kong and China such as the Matilda Children’s Foundation, which he initiated and the Hope Foundation. He offered free surgeries to children with complex urologic conditions in Hong Kong and China. |
